“I
Hope
You
Know”
As
quickly and eventfully as it came, June has come to a close, and we
welcome July with eager anticipation.
We will comment no further on the dwindling amount of summer
vacation (sorry, it had to be said).
Camp Meribah has seen a tremendous month, and the staff and campers
have enjoyed some exciting and blessed times.
There have been some who have waded creeks, ridden in canoes, and
enjoy the tastes of camp, that only our locally talented cooks could
provide. “Thank
you” cannot be said often enough to those who have given of themselves
so that many young people could enjoy this time.
If you have the chance to thank a staff member or a camper, take
that opportunity, and show our appreciation for them.
July will have its share of events, and those who take part in them
will be blessed. Always
take note inside the Messenger for the latest updates and schedule of the
weeks and months ahead.
Plan now so as not to miss out on these chances for service,
fellowship, and glorifying God.
One
event you will hear and read more and more about in the coming weeks is
our planned, “Framing the Future” Sunday.
We have scheduled August 30th as a time when we will set aside our
time, resources, and focus, to lay plans for some immediate and near
future projects for the work in Centerville.
That Sunday night we will enjoy a fellowship meal together (yes, it
will be fish!) and announce our total collections for the day.
The goal for Sunday, August 30th, is to see our financial
contribution go toward the retiring of our line of credit, a down payment
for pending facilities projects, and a commitment to maintaining a growing
congregation. Our
goal is by no means out of reach or unrealistic.
accomplish
the work of the church, the body, the people of God.
When the prophet Haggai challenged the people of His time to
refocus their attention to the temple of God, his goal was for them to see
the importance of not letting life distract them from their relationship
with God. Too
much of life had come between them and their God, and Haggai pointed it
out in clear terms.
They were building houses, while the temple was lying in ruins
(Haggai 1:4).
The
building where the Centerville Church of Christ assembles is not a temple.
We, as God’s people, are God’s temple (I Corinthians 6:19).
At the same time, we cannot help but acknowledge these facilities,
these grounds, and these buildings have come as a blessing and a gift.
We have a responsibility to be good stewards of this property in
order to continue the work of serving this great community, county,
country, continent, and collective body of souls.
Let’s, together, show the world Who is first in the lives of the
people of Centerville, TN.
Let’s be a group of people who point toward heaven and not toward
our human frailties.
Be discussing what you and your household can do above and beyond
your regular contribution.
Set a personal financial goal so as not to boast or burden, but to
bring into focus the importance of serving God, showing others His love,
and seeking His will above your own.
I hope you know what a tremendous future we have as the Centerville
Church of Christ, because all that we have belongs to the Lord (Haggai
2:8). Let us
then use it for His glory!
